Our Story
Our strategically located facility was commissioned in 1982 and purchased under private ownership in 2018 operating as Calgary L&G Inc. Today, it stands as the only significant operation of its kind in Canada, west of Toronto, Ontario. During the acquisition of the plant, we were fortunate to retain key employees, bringing with them decades of experience in grease formulation, manufacturing, testing and packaging.
Calgary L&G began grease manufacturing by developing several of our own proprietary formulations. These greases were developed in consultation with our end customers, considering their specific applications and requirements. To date we have developed 11 different formulations, including a lithium calcium multi purpose grease that has been licensed as HPM+LT. Beyond our capacity to manufacture over 10 million kilograms of grease annually, our accomplished scientists and technicians continue to expand our technologies and capabilities. The operation is complete with a sizable warehouse and robust Research, Product Development and Quality Control Laboratory. In addition, we have a large tank farm, bulk truckload rack and rail sidings to ensure specialized storage and handling of finished blended oils and base fluids for grease manufacturing.
We have a demonstrated ability to scale up and meet changing market demands and customer requirements. Calgary L&G began full production in 2020, manufacturing three of our own products and two customer formulations for a total of 166,000 kilograms. Our portfolio grew in the coming years, with an additional four Calgary L&G and five customer formulations added to production in 2021. We saw further growth in 2022, adding another four Calgary L&G formulations to production and a further six customer formulations, including the introduction of bentonite greases. Growth continued in 2023 and 2024 with the addition of two more Calgary L&G greases and three customer formulations. We have a total of 11 Calgary L&G formulations and 14 customer formulations in active production representing nearly 4 million kilograms. We currently manufacture lithium, lithium complex, lithium calcium and bentonite greases.
Calgary L&G has also developed a suite of calcium sulfonate greases with various technical specifications and applications. Given our strong track record in scaling up new formulations, we are fully prepared to begin commercial production in spring of 2025.
